Tractor Parade And Trek Rules

April 2, 2006

1.       Equipment that is self-propelled and operated on a public road shall be operated by a person that is licensed by the state in which they reside.

2.       To operate equipment at an MATC advertised tractor parade or trek you must be a current MATC and EDGE&TA member.

3.       If you are a member age 12 through 17, you must have completed the MATC SAFETY COURSE and have a Youth Driver Training Certification Card in your possession to drive in a parade, a tractor trek or on any show grounds.

4.       All tractors shall have an emergency kill switch or device in reach of the driver’s seat.

5.       A certified fire extinguisher should be prominently displayed on each tractor.

6.       There shall be only one (1) person on a tractor when moving, unless there are provisions for others and these provisions meet the Safety Officer’s approval.

7.       It is not acceptable for riders to stand on the drawbar or hitches on any tractor.

8.       Tractors with cabs may have riders if they are inside the cab and the doors are closed.

9.       All PTO shafts should be covered if possible, and if not, make sure they are disengaged.

10.    A minimum distance of 3 times the length of your tractor should be maintained between your tractor and whatever is in front of you.

11.    When operating a tractor in a parade, always drive parallel to the spectators.

12.    When operating a tractor in a parade or trek, never throw candy or other objects from the tractor/wagon/people mover.

13.    Towing tractors must have adequate brakes to handle the towed load on any hill that may be encountered.  (NOTE: garden tractors are not designed to be towing vehicles).

14.    Never leave a tractor in gear when parked.  (This will prevent someone from accidentally starting the tractor and running over themselves, others or other equipment).

15.    Never leave an unattended tractor running.

16.    All pulled wagons or people movers shall have a washer and hitch cross pin in the bottom end of the pulling pin.  A grade 8 bolt with double nuts would also work.  Conventional trailer ball hitches are also acceptable.

17.    A Safety Triangle will be prominently displayed on the rear of each tractor during a trek.

18.    Draw bar on pulling vehicle must be long enough to provide adequate turning radius so the tongue of people mover/wagon will not ride up on the rear tires of the pulling vehicle.  A safety chain is required and must be short so that in the event that the people mover/wagon becomes unhitched from the tractor, the people mover/wagon will not roll into the tractor tires.
